Jane Nickens — Art and Music
Hi! My name is Jane Nickens. I graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services (counseling) and a Master of Arts in Education with a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
For over 20 years I have been teaching either as a substitute teacher in K-12 grades or as an Instructional Assistant in regular and special education. I am drawn to teaching for many reasons, the joy and love of children and the desire to serve and know that my efforts may bring forth productive, caring, and knowledgeable adults one day.
My Music and Art background comes from some school positions and my own desire, through the years, to reap the countless benefits that the Arts have given me throughout my life. I performed as a child, singing and dancing for local studios. In high school and college I sang in a Madrigal group that won a performing spot at the World’s Fair. Through the years I have sung at local churches and groups throughout the community. While working for Roseville City School District, I was asked to help develop and implement their Choral Music Program.
I believe the benefits of the Arts to be paramount in shaping individuals abilities and character. The Arts are a part of the fabric of our society. Human culture uses music and art to carry forward its ideas and ideals. I want to encourage my students, through the Arts, and with their magical gifts, to develop self-discipline, diligence, and creativity that will stay with them the rest of their lives. And… while I am trying to accomplish this with my students, we plan on having a lot of fun!
