Heather Stewart — Kindergarten
Hello! I am a Kindergarten Teacher at Phoenix School’s Folsom Campus.
The 2009-2010 year will be my fourteenth as an elementary school teacher. I enjoy researching and creating new lessons, and employing teaching techniques that make the material come alive for students. The use of many visuals and hands-on experiences help me reinforce key learning objectives. I practice a thematic approach to learning that helps students make vital connections between curricular areas in ways meaningful to them. My balanced approach to teach reading includes activities ranging from developing phonemic awareness to posing critical thinking questions. Using a hands-on approach to teach math and science, manipulatives and interactive discussions help bring real-world concepts to life. Such experiences empower students to become independent workers and critical thinkers. To reinforce instruction, interesting and relevant writing topics are integrated into all academic areas. I believe in building students’ self-esteem, being sensitive to individual student learning styles, and instilling a life-long love of learning.
I have lived in the Sacramento area since attending high school in Roseville. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Education from University of California, Davis, where I graduated with honors. My California Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential is from California State University, Sacramento. As an Elementary School Teacher, I have participated in scores of Continuing Education Classes focusing on innovative teaching methods and best practices.
I am married and have six-year old boy-girl twins. I enjoy reading, traveling, ballroom dancing and spending time with my family. Educating your child is a tremendous responsibility that I take very seriously. I look forward to helping your child grow academically and as a young member of our community.
