Parent Testimonial

I am writing to express my appreciation for the educational and developmental experience your school has given my twins. They began attending Phoenix in pre-school, and are now finishing second grade.  I must say I have been overwhelmed with the quality of the teaching staff and the overall program phoenix has offered to my children.  We first chose Phoenix because our local school (not in the Folsom area) did not offer before-and-after-school care, and my job as a nurse sometimes required working odd hours.  We stayed with the Phoenix because of certain teachers, along with the Lifeskill program.

Our first realization of the uniqueness of the Phoenix came in Kindergarten, when Sarah was assigned to Ms. Rose’s class.  I was worried about Sarah going into the accelerated K-1 class because she could only write half the alphabet, only knew the sounds of a quarter of the letters, and didn’t show any interest in learning more.  I decided to trust your judgment and let her go in the accelerated class, thinking that within a few weeks I would be requesting a traditional Kindergarten class for her.  To my surprise, within two weeks Mrs. Rose, with the quiet, patient manner, had Sarah enthusiastic about learning.  For career day that fall, Sarah even dressed like Ms. Rose saying she wanted to be a teacher.

In first grade our other daughter Kathryn had Mrs. Crumb.  Mrs. Crumb worked with us daily both during school and after hours to help Katie learn to become more self-motivated and focused.  When we had Katie evaluated that fall for learning disabilities, Mrs. Crumb asked if she could attend the conference discussing the results so she could “learn how Katie ticks.”  Even though the conference was after school on a Friday, Mrs. Crumb stayed until all of my questions had been answered, staying so late that she missed part of her son’s football game that night.  Her commitment to my daughter was, and still is, heartwarming.  Katie now excels at school, even getting on the honor roll this year.

Mrs. Masterson and Ms. Sudheimer, in second grade, have lived up to our expectations of what Phoenix teachers should be.   My girls are on “the right path” educationally, understanding the value of hard work and knowing the joy of learning and of success.  The second grade teachers have continued and built upon the academic excellence my children have experienced at Phoenix.  Above that, they have continued to focus on the Phoenix Lifeskills, including Courage, Perseverance, Organization, and Respect, among many others.  With the help of Phoenix, my children are growing into independent, caring girls who take care of themselves as well as look out for others.

Thank you so much for the gift you and your staff have given my children.  No matter where they go in life, I know they will always think of themselves with pride as “Phoenix Kids.” With much appreciation.

Yours very truly,
Meg

As an educational leader in your community I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.
My name is Debbie MacDonald and I am the new principal at the Phoenix Elementary and
Middle school. I have spent over 20 years as an educator and leader in the California public
school system and I am very excited about the unique educational experience children are
receiving at Phoenix School.

I know from experience that many families are becoming frustrated with the increasing
class sizes, budget cuts and layoffs of quality teachers in our public school system. I joined
Phoenix Schools because I am passionate about providing a strong educational foundation
during a child’s formative years. We need to prepare our children for the future and I am
excited that an innovative educational experience is affordable and available outside of our
public schools.

Quite simply, the Phoenix School provides the education your child deserves. Many parents
of potential students may ask about the difference between a public and a private elementary school. With our class sizes ranging from only 17-21 students, we are able to go beyond the base curriculum and provide individualized attention to help each student learn based on his or her strengths and needs. Our defined educational philosophy, curriculum and life skills program produces students who have the skills to become leaders who excel academically. The elementary and middle school years are the most critical years in a child’s education. By helping a child develop a sense of integrity, a strong work ethic, and by infusing confidence, our students learn that through personal responsibility, they will have the skills necessary for continued success in their own learning.

While we can show you how our standardized test scores and total instructional hours
exceed that of the public schools, probably the best way to understand the true difference of
private education is to visit our school and allow me to introduce myself and our teachers.
Between now and the start of the fall semester in August we are hosting weekly open houses so you can truly see what your child can experience each day. Our weekly open houses are from 4:00-6:00 every Thursday afternoon. You can also schedule a time to visit that works best with your schedule. Please call 916.226.9966 to schedule your visit.

I look forward to meeting your family. As always, if there are any questions you have as you
consider your child’s academic future, please don’t hesitate to give me a call.

Sincerely,

Debbie MacDonald
